Morehead City, NC - Day 2

What a beautiful day we had here today!  75 degrees, sunny....a real taste of what awaits us as we head further south.  But it is short-lived...a cold front is coming in tonight bringing showers and cooler air.  It was really nice to shed the coats, put on T-shirts, and go barefoot.

We spent the day running errands and doing chores around the boat.  Here's a picture of our welcoming committee when we came back from the laundry:

Since writing about grocery shopping and visits to West Marine, cleaning dock mung off the hull and greasing the helm are all pretty boring, I thought I'd list a few revelations I have had.

  1. Small spaces (like the interior of a boat) get dirty much faster than large spaces (like a condo).
  2. One of us always remembers where we put something on the boat...we would never find anything without each other.
  3. It takes two people to off load and on load a dog when the gate is beyond the end of the dock finger.
  4. Dogs can "hold it" much longer when there is no grass in sight.
  5. Mushrooms don't hold up very well in a boat's refrigerator.
  6. I still have not discovered my threshold for the lowest temperature I can tolerate without shore power and heat.  Last night's 55 degrees required the heater, but only overnight.  Must be 60 degrees, the same for lowering the top on my car.
  7. The enclosure panels refuse to roll up when they are cold.
  8. It takes two people to do most things on a boat.
  9. Free WiFi at marinas is worthless when the guy in the next slip is streaming video.
  10. Motoring is just as challenging as sailing.
  11. We get a good night's sleep in a small bed.  It's warm and comfy with a quilt, a down throw, and a blanket and all that body heat (including the pup's).
  12. Marina ads are not always completely true.
