Sunset Beach, NC

We had an excellent day today!  Beautiful weather...sunnier and not as windy as forecast.  We were warm inside our cockpit enclosure, but outside it was still chilly.  We left Wrightsville Beach at 8:15 am and arrived at Sunset Beach, NC at 4:15 pm, covering 47 miles.

We went south through Snows Cut to Cape Fear River.  We noticed some shoaling and strong currents at the inlets from the Atlantic, Carolina Beach, Lockwoods Folly Inlet, and Shallotte River Inlet, but we navigated safely through them all today.  We did come across a sailboat stuck on a shoal at Shallotte, and we felt really bad for them....they were waiting for Tow Boat US and acting as shoal marker for the boats that passed.

Here are today's photos:

Geodesic home...don't see too many of these along the ICW

Southport, NC...we were going to stop here for the night, but it was
only noon and we wanted to go more miles.  Would have been a nice stop.

Pretty scenery along Snow's Cut

Lockwoods Folly Inlet - the Atlantic Ocean!

Wow...these are some big homes on the ICW!

The marina building, where the webcam was located.  My brother Bob called shortly
after we docked and told us he could see us on the marina's webcam.  What a treat!
Part of the marina storage facility.  the blue-roofed building behind the stacked boats
holds another 400 boats.....
